Task: Entering National/International Competitions.
These were some of the websites I visited in order to look for competitions:
- http://www.photographers.co.uk/html/photography-competitions.cfm
- http://www.photocompetitions.com/
- http://www.photoawards.com/en/
In the end I have selected the following competitions to enter:
1. Sony World Photography Awards 2013
2. Prix de la Photographie Paris.
Both of them were suggested during P&CP lectures by tutor Angus Fraser.
SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS 2013
I have decided to enter the Open Competition held by Sony World Photography Awards 2013. The reason why I choose this particular category is the nature of the images. They have been taken as part of personal or university projects and therefore do not match the professional category. Another aspect is the competition’s diversity which allows me to focus on several photographic fields instead of just one. I aim to submit two images to the People category and one image to Architecture.
The following screen-shots aim to provide evidence of my competition submission.
From the series Bonjour et Au Revoir I have selected one image and submitted it to the People category:
This is the one:
With regards to the Once Upon a Past series I had two images to choose from.
I have selected the second one:
Steel Structure DNA was submitted to the SWPA 2013, Architectural category.
PRIX DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE PARIS
I have decided to
enter the Prix de la Photographie Paris, self portrait competition because it offers the opportunity of gaining international exposure and I also liked the competition theme. Portraiture
has always been a matter of interest to me, ever since I began exploring
photography. From my perspective, self portraiture is one of the most complex
fields of image making. The photographer
has to assume two roles in one single image. He has to be the person behind the
camera, focusing on the technical aspects as well as be present in front of the
lens, posing. Being two people at the same time appeals to me as it evidences
the duality of human beings.
We are able to be
both the mind behind the camera and the person in front of it, deciding all
aspect regarding props, poses, backgrounds and end result.
This is the screen shot which evidences my paid entry for the competition.
This was my other option:
